The grapevine is that two major construction projects in the City of London – one for the tallest building in the city and one for the tallest tower in the city, are being considered by the Brookfield Asset Management Inc.

For the time being, Brookfield Asset Management Inc has a stake in Pinnacle which is under construction. This 64 floor building is the only big office construction project in London city and will be finished in 2012.

Further, there are plans for the construction of the tallest tower, provided Brookfield gets permission to build it as the developer. This project would be undertaken in partnership with a real estate investment company, Land Securities Group Place.

The scene of real estate in London has started improving from its condition during recession when hardly any construction is office sector was happening. Now, new projects appear to be sprouting in real estate sector again.

King Sturge has observed that good office space is not on the market. This would bring the rate back to the all time high prices of 2007 and will attract new construction projects for rent desk spaces in the city. Savvas Savouri, the City broker BH2’s head of researcher is also unsurprised by the new found interest in constructions project in London. She points out that the low demand is no longer the problem and the issue now is non availability of space.

Meanwhile, the Pinnacle project is well under way with the workers in the process of sealing down its foundation. It will measure around 280 m and will 53 m be higher than the Canary Wharf skyscraper which is presently the tallest in the city.
